Quick & Easy Chewy Chocolate-Dipped Flapjacks

12 Apr 2014

Simple, but effective. For those days when you want something yummy and sweet, but don't have much time on your hands; try these gorgeous chocolate dipped flapjacks.

Does anyone else find plain flapjacks kind of dull? They're tasty, don't get me wrong, but sometimes they just look and feel a bit, well... boring. If you share this view, or want to spice up a standard recipe for some impressionable guests then these are a definite winner! Don't expect a fancy recipe or fancy ingredients though...

You will need:

375g Porridge Oats
200g Butter
200g Caster Sugar
4 tbsp Golden Syrup
80g Dark Chocolate

1. Preheat your oven to 180C (Put the butter, sugar and golden syrup into a pan, and keep stirring on a medium heat until everything has melted. (If you want to get syrup off a spoon easily, then hover the spoon over a hob very carefully for a few seconds, and then scoop the syrup out.)

2. Remove from the heat, add your oats and mix until all the oats are covered. Pour this mixture into a greased baking tray, and flatten with a spatula. Cook for 15-20 minutes, until golden brown in colour (when the edges start turning dark, take them out!!).

3. Whilst you're waiting for the flapjack to cool, you can start to melt your chocolate. I do this either in a saucepan, or in a microwaveable bowl, stirring every 20 seconds until it's melted.

4. Once the flapjack has completely cooled, cut into rectangular or square shapes. Dip each individual into the chocolate, making sure to cover half of each side. Place each finished piece onto greaseproof paper, and preferably a baking tray ready to put into the fridge.

5. Leave in the fridge for about 1 1/2 hours, or until the chocolate has set completely, lift each flapjack off and enjoy!

    1. Thank you so much! I'm still learning myself to be honest, so I don't see them as particularly great right now but I think they're improving! And getting tastier and tastier...
